Experimental and Numerical Study of Perforated Open Steel Sections, Subject to Compression
نویسندگان
چکیده
The results of several perforated steel thin-walled U-shaped sections subject to compression are presented. The ultimate strength obtained from experimental tests is compared to the one obtained from numerical simulation by finite element method. The experimental tests were carried out according to the standard 10.2.02 of the FEM. The meshing, loading, boundary conditions for supports, geometric and material properties are introduced in the model in conformity with the experimental tests. Tests previously carried out on short columns (l = 250÷400 mm) provided local and distortional buckling modes. The aim of this study is to analyze the behaviour of longer columns (l > 1000 mm,) which provide other critical buckling modes.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Perforated Steel Plate Shear Panels
Thin perforated Steel Plate Shear (SPS) Walls are among the most common types of energy dissipating systems. The applied holes reduce the shear strength of the plate and allow to decrease the profile size of the members at the boundary of the panel when these systems are used in the typical design of structures. On the other hand, the different fracture locations of these panels are visible whe...
متن کاملA numerical and experimental study on buckling and post-buckling of cracked plates under axial compression load
Existence of cracks in industrial structures is one of the important causes of their failure, especially when they are subjected to important axial compressive forces that might lead to buckling. Therefore, it must be considered in stress analysis and designing and loading of such structures. In this paper, the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of stainless-steel cracked plates under axial c...
متن کاملDistortional Influence of Pallet Rack Uprights Subject to Combined Compression and Bending
A pallet rack is a structure in which the beams and uprights are cold-formed steel sections. The beam-upright connections are normally clipped in order to select the beam levels required and for ease of assembly. For this reason, the uprights contain holes and perforations distributed along their length. The complexity of these components, with local, distortional and torsional/flexural bucklin...

In this paper, crashworthiness characteristics of conical steel tubes stiffened by annular rings and rigid polyurethane foam are investigated. For this purpose, wide circumferential rings are created from the outer surface of the conical tube at some determined areas along tube length. In fact, this method divides a long conical tube into several tubes of shorter length. When this structure is ...

Graph theory based methods are powerful means for representing structural systems so that their geometry and topology can be understood clearly. The combination of graph theory based methods and some metaheuristics can offer effective solutions for complex engineering optimization problems. This paper presents a Charged System Search (CSS) algorithm for the free shape optimizations of thin-wall...
